Historiografías nacionales, investigaciones recientes y renovación interpretativa http://www.rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/465
Our aim is to offer a bibliographic review on the conquest and colonization of Sardinia by the Crown of Aragon, in order to analyze the discrepancies shown by researchers regarding two key issues: the causes of the process and the identification of the social agents who led it. The paper argues that the lack of consensus arises from the nationalist character of some historiographical traditions. Likewise, it presents how these kind of explanations have already been questioned by several authors, especially during the last three decades. Finally, we present some proposals to give a new focus to the subject and to overcome the national narratives.

The article examines texts and inscriptions from the Scandinavian area on the experience of pilgrimages in the 11th-14th centuries. Sagas, commemorative epigraphs, chronicles, highlight a great interest for travel in the south, not only in Rome, but also in the east, up to the Arab Caliphate, and in the west in the sanctuaries of France and Spain. The different literary typology of the sources also reflects different motivations of the Nordic traveler: interest in exotic places, desire to conquer wealth and honors, desire for expiation and religious afflatus.
Carla Del Zotto ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode 2020-06-30 2020-06-30 79 101 10.7410/1425 Presentazione http://www.rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/462 Francesco D'Angelo ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode 2020-06-30 2020-06-30 5 6 Introduzione: il pellegrinaggio medioevale http://www.rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/464 Umberto Longo ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode 2020-06-30 2020-06-30 7 14 L’influsso delle marinerie nordiche sullo sviluppo del naviglio mediterraneo: un tema controverso http://www.rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/456
This article analyzes the main changes in the Mediterranean ships during the 14th century, assessing the possibility that they derived little from the influence of the northern seas, as usually claimed. It is argued that the structural reasons for the so-called “nautical revolution” are to be found in the impact of environmental conditions on technological change and the need for capital invested in trade, shipbuilding and ship ownership to yield the best results. In conclusion, he suggests that the possible links between technical innovation and the more general “crisis” of the 14th century should be systematically investigated.

The paper intends to provide some suggestions on mediterranean politics of Roger II according to recent studies and using sources of different types, in order to recognize the wide range of options in which the Norman court of Palermo operated in the first half of the twelfth century, and the choices made according to a flexible political agenda.

In view of the events, it is clear that Roger II (from 1130 king of Sicily) directed more attention to the North African coast overshadowing the ties with the Latin East towards which he had also initially turned, trying to obtain the crown of the Kingdom of Jerusalem by signing a matrimonial agreement with King Baudouin I who married the mother of the Norman prince. A project whose failure led to a reorientation of the political objectives of the Norman court toward their Muslim neighbors.

The article traces the history of the relationship between the Nordic and Mediterranean worlds, from the Viking age to the time of the Crusades (9th-12th century), reconstructing the events, paths and motivations that led men and women of the North to undertake the journey south. From the sources examined (runic inscriptions, Old Norse sagas, Latin and Arab chronicles) emerges the substantial continuity of these relationships and above all the importance of the conversion to Christianity, which for Scandinavian pilgrims and crusaders opened the way to the main Christian sanctuaries and holy places.
Francesco D'Angelo ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode 2020-06-30 2020-06-30 55 78 10.7410/1424 Simona Serci (2019) Corona d’Aragona e Mediterraneo. At the beginning it was probably a castle of the Byzantine Age, a fortress in the boundary between Marmilla and Trexenta. This was an area with intensive viability, already in Roman and Punic age, for the control of rich farming products. The ceramics refers to a continuity of the site from the third up to the eighth century and up to the thirteenth and the beginning of the fourteenth century. The sources relating to the “Giudicato” of “Arborea”, the relationship of the castle with the frontier of the Kingdom of Arborèa and the hypotheses on the causes of the disrepair of the castle, open the way to new theories and research perspectives.

Francesca Lai Mauro Perra Gabriella Uccheddu Giovanni Serreli ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode 2019-12-31 2019-12-31 5 33 10.7410/1396
